Significance: The now-vacant Marine Barracks, Building 5, was built in 1935, and is associated with the earliest phase of the installation's development. The building, along with the Officer's housing, forms a stylistically unified grouping which retains its historic integrity and displays a relatively high degree of architectural merit representative of New Deal construction. The structure embodies distinctive architectural features, as well as associations with the broad patterns of history - World War II and the development of communications technology. The building's period of significance extends from 1935 through 1972. Although later renovations were made, the building's basic integrity from the World War II-period was not impaired.
